All of our traders are independent traders and customer care is a high-priority, with every visitor getting personalised service.
Access and Movement – we have detailed access routes and entrances accompanied by photograph to help demonstrate the information visually.
Music – the market hall does play background music at a low sound level, this can be adapted for customer comfort if required.
Market Asset Management Staff support the traders and customers coming to Darlington markets. Please ask if you have any questions or suggestions.
Entrances, Movement and Flooring
The Victorian Market Hall is a large building with a host of local businesses offering a wide variety of products. Accessing the building is easiest via flat double electric door openings on West Row and we also have a ramp entrance on Tubwell Row side of the building with a swing door.
Left: West Row of Building – flat entrance. Right: Horsemarket Entrance – steps with handrail x 7 steps.

The walkways are wide enough for easy movement. The picture (above right) here shows the surface of the stone floor is flat with only slight imperfections and the walkways are wide enough for a mobility scooter or wheelchair to pass through easily.
Walkways throughout the building are stone paving – although not completely flat the spaces are smooth enough for mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs to move through the space easily.
Event and Seating Area – we have tables and chairs for resting, eating and sitting, we have provided also trestle tables which wheelchair users find more accessible. More are available on request.
This picture, below, shows that we have some tables and chairs to use including a trestle table which is easier for a wheelchair user to access so they can sit at the table with their friend/carer.
Parking for Disabled Cars
There is on street parking in Horsemarket offering disabled parking spaces to the side of the market hall building. The surface of the parking is cobbles and there are flat access pavements surrounding. Parking – there is disabled parking located next to the market hall at the Horsemarket postcode DL1 5PW this parking is on cobbled roadway, the footpaths are smooth paving.
The image, below left, shows the car parking facilities at Horsemarket which has parking bays for Disabled and non-disabled visitors. There are 7 allocated disabled only bays and the on-street parking is available for disabled and non-disabled users. The floor surface is cobbled but all pavements are smooth stone with accessible ramps. The crossing points all have tactile surfaces.
